Dear Parent or Guardian,

In this themed literature unit, we will be learning about overcoming obstacles. We will read several stories about characters, both fictional and nonfictional, who have overcome obstacles. Through these stories, students will examine the skills the characters needed to overcome their own obstacles and reach their goals. As we study this unit, we will be exploring two essential questions: What does it mean to overcome obstacles? What does it take for someone to be able to overcome obstacles?
My hope is that through this unit, students will learn not to give up when they come to an obstacle, but see it as an opportunity to grow stronger and more confident in their abilities. In order to enhance your child's understanding of this unit, I have created three activities that you can do at home with your child.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Thank you,

Ms. Han
